Duvian's People

The War Between the States

Norwalk supplied the union army with goods and soldiers.

My brother worked at Comstock Brothers, making the Kepi, the blue hat worn by northern soldiers. I wanted to fight, so I left Norwalk, and I joined up with the 29th Connecticut Volunteer Colored Regiment. There were a dozen of us from Norwalk, and four of us were in Company C. We mustered in New Haven in November of 1863 before heading to Annapolis.
