Colonial Norwalk

The Revolutionary War led to the burning of Norwalk

Norwalk's islands were used by privateers to smuggle goods to the revolutionary colonists, while the rich merchants of Norwalk were viewed by the British as threats. In 1779 Norwalk was burned almost completely by General Tyron of the British army.

Few buildings survived the burning.
