Growth Pains

Flights over Germany

I was a Radio Operator Gunner for the Army Aircorps during the Second World War. I flew in a 10 man crews aboard a B-17, part of the 100th Bomber Group based out of England. The average lifespan of a flight crew was 11 missions. I was lucky to make it back home. Alot of the guys didn't.

When I came home, it was different. In England there was shortages of everything. Home was hardly changed. The hardest part was talking with the families of the guys I served with who didn't make it back. They wanted to know what it was like, what they did. I just wanted to forget.
