An Iraq War Veteran Returns Home.
I'm still wired. Sudden movements make me jumpy still. I can't stop being on alert. Ten days ago, I was serving as a combat mechanic with Bravo Company in Tikrit. Today I'm headed home. Home. For five years home was a SWA hut in the sand. Do I remember Lexington Ave.? I think I do. It was a lifetime ago. I joined the army as an early enlistment to get away from life in Norwalk, to be someone in the world. On 9/11 I was in school at Norwalk High, watching the attacks on TV. I've proved my worth in the world. So why am I back here? I've got nowhere else to go.
