Immigrants came to Norwalk's Manufacturing center.
A friend told me to come to Norwalk because there were jobs here. I left Colombia with only an address and a dream. My first job was at the Supreme Shoe Company on Water Street. My next job was at Alden O. Sherman company where I worked on jet engines. I got married to my sweetheart back home, and started our family in Norwalk even though my brothers and sisters stayed in Colombia, I felt welcome and at home in Norwalk and over the years I was part of a strong Colombian community here. Eventually eight of my siblings joined me in Norwalk and we became US Citizens, but I still look forward to July's Colombian festival at Veteran's Park.
