Post War Growth

The Flood of '55 Forever altered downtown Norwalk.

We lived in an apartment over the Boston Store at the corner of Main and Wall. It was a great place to live, we could walk to the grocery store, and go to the movies. But it all changed because of the great flood.

My entire family watched as night fell and the water still kept rising. The sandbags weren't stopping the water from streaming into buildings and people's furniture was floating by.

So many stores and buildings were lost.
